Melissa has been practicing Usui Reiki since 2004, later receiving her Master/Teacher attunement in 2008. She values the power of flower essences and gemstone therapy as optional complements to her energy work.

She is an East Asian Medicine Practitioner and NCCAOM-recognized Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, having studied acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in both the United States and in China. After spending over three years working for two major Chinese herbal dispensaries in the US (Spring Wind and Kamwo) and the integrative pharmacy, Pharmaca, her knowledge of Chinese herbs and supplements has deepened to encompass a greater understanding of herb/drug interaction, quality control, and effectiveness. Her practice has also greatly benefitted from independent study completed with pulse master, Robert ("Dr. Bob") Levine. She is also a Certified Massage Therapist (CA) in Shiatsu, with additional training completed in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Trigger Point Therapy, and introductory Thai.

Education continues to be an integral part of Melissa's practice. She has been the substitute teacher at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, NY and assistant instructor at American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CA). In addition to being published, she loves giving talks to both the general public and medical professionals on subjects ranging from Chinese medicine to compassionate communication.
